Vivid colors shape the structure of the painted composition. In this painting one sees a consistent handling of color. This use recurs in G. Gelbmann’s works.

The starting point of the composition is actually the right side of the picture:
From the viewer’s perspective, the impression arises that the dancer’s searching gaze does not lead out of the picture, but rather wants to find the cause of a probable interruption.

From here the eye moves across partial areas to the facets of the color palette. The chosen areas are brought together by lines. Areas and lines could represent the individual steps during the development of a choreography. They stand for strength, energy and dynamism in the composition.

The focus is on the whole, the unity of the dancer and her surroundings in the painting.

The traditional treatment of space is subtly sketched; the surroundings, as well as the dancer, are significant participants in the space.

The model is a dancer, a recurring subject of the artist. The pose shown can be associated with dance.

Thanks to the expressive colors, the whole composition makes a dynamic impression. Although the figure’s posture appears rather calm, the before and after of the dance can be felt.
